Wow, what an event! We had a few hiccups but overall the Hornby Enduro 2024 was an incredible success.
In talking to the riders after the race and in the campsite in the evening after the event, I was reminded that Hornby island is a very special venue and that we have an amazing crew of volunteers.
The racers loved the courses and how well every stage was marked. They could not stop talking about the awesome volunteers and how seamlessly everything seemed to run. This kind of success does not happen by accident, it takes a group of hard-working volunteers, each doing their part and stepping in to take care of problems.
A number of Hornby Locals did very well this weekend:
Jody Rutherford took third place and Geoff Kabush took first place in the Men’s Expert category, with an impressive showing by WIll Wood Macdonell who placed 11th, and Nigel Fletcher who pulled off a 14th. The Expert men was the most competitive category–by far-with 62 starters.
Tess Armstrong took 2nd place in the Under 15 Women category, and was only 6 seconds away from 1st place!
Thank you so much to every HIMBA volunteer as well as Hornby Organic, Strachan Valley Farm and Island Cup – Vancouver Island Mountain Bike Race Series for making the race a resounding success.
The next Hornby Enduro will take place June 20, 2026.
