Island Cup Enduro 2024

Hornby is a special place that can claim to be one of the birthplaces of mountain biking in BC. We hosted our first race in 1989  (the first of ten legendary Hornby Island Mountain Bike Festivals) and have been putting on races ever since.

Mount Geoffrey is small, only 1053 feet high, but almost all of it is public land so there’s lots of space to race. We’ve put together 5 stages that we hope you will love.  There will be a limited amount of onsite camping and there are other accommodation options available for Hornby. For those who have to head back to the big island on the day of the race, you will get back to Vancouver Island as long as you are in the ferry lineup by 6:00 p.m.

Travel info:

We recommend racers come over to Hornby the day before the race if they can as Hornby Island is served by a very busy ferry system that often has long line-ups. Those hoping to come over on the day of the race will be taking their chances as there is no predicting what the traffic will be like. There are late ferries on Friday night, with the last ferry that will get you to Hornby leaving  Buckley Bay at 9:30.

A note: on Saturday and Sunday the last ferry off of Hornby is at 6:00 p.m. As long as you are in the lineup by 6:00 the ferry will run to get you off that night.

The race site is at the very end of Strachan Road. To get there, follow the main road all the way around the Island. At the Co-op store intersection (the only 4 way stop on the island), take a right and head toward Ford Cove. After about 3 km, turn right onto Strachan Road and follow it to the end where you will find the race site.

Be aware, after about 800 meters on Strachan Road, a much larger road, Marylebone Road, turns left, don’t get fooled into taking it, stay on Strachan.

On-Island Accommodation

We will be providing limited camping spots in Strachan Valley at the race site. The camping is simple with cold running water and outhouse only. Please bring your own toilet paper and pack out your garbage.
